The explosion resulted in one fatality and left seven individuals with minor injuries, prompting an ongoing investigation by local authorities and federal agencies.

The fire was first reported at approximately 8:40 a.m. local time (14:40 GMT) in the valet area of the luxury hotel. Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department provided initial details during a press conference later that day.

“A 2024 Tesla Cybertruck approached the hotel’s main entrance, stopping directly in front of the glass doors,” McMahill explained. “Shortly thereafter, witnesses observed smoke emanating from the vehicle, followed by a powerful explosion.”

The circumstances surrounding the explosion remain under scrutiny, and officials have yet to confirm its exact cause. Preliminary findings indicate that the truck was transporting fireworks, and a deceased individual was discovered inside the vehicle.

Eyewitnesses described the terrifying sequence of events. Ana Bruce, a bystander, recounted hearing three distinct explosions.

“The first explosion happened where we initially saw the fire,” Bruce said, as quoted by The Associated Press. “The second seemed related to the truck’s battery, and the third was massive, engulfing the area in smoke. That’s when authorities began evacuating everyone and urged people to stay clear of the vicinity.”

McMahill also reassured the public about ongoing efforts to secure the area: “Given the nature of this explosion on such a prominent street, we are taking every precaution to ensure community safety and searching for any secondary devices. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has joined the investigation, but officials have admitted that many questions remain unanswered. Jeremy Schwartz, the acting special agent in charge of the FBI’s Las Vegas office, told reporters, “We’re working diligently to piece together the details, but at this stage, there’s more that we don’t know than we do.”
