Malaysia Condemns Forced Displacement of Palestinians: a Violation of International Law

Malaysia has firmly denounced any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from Gaza, stating that such actions would amount to ethnic cleansing and constitute a severe breach of international law. The Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs made this position clear in response to recent remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who suggested that Washington should assume control over Gaza as part of an ambitious redevelopment strategy.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry emphasized its categorical rejection of any initiative that seeks to relocate Palestinians without their consent, describing such measures as unjustifiable and a blatant infringement on their fundamental right to self-determination. The ministry warned that imposing a unilateral solution disregarding Palestinian sovereignty would only serve to escalate tensions in one of the most protracted conflicts in modern history.
“Any attempt, whether direct or indirect, to forcibly remove Palestinians from their homeland is unacceptable,” the statement read. “Such actions violate multiple United Nations resolutions and the principles of international law. The only viable path toward lasting peace and stability in the Middle East is the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.”
The ministry urged the international community to unite in support of a comprehensive and just resolution that prioritizes Palestinian rights. Malaysia reaffirmed its commitment to diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a permanent and credible peace agreement, stressing that the solution must be one that is fully acceptable to the Palestinian people themselves.
Later on Thursday, Malaysia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamad Hasan, addressed the issue in parliament, condemning the proposed displacement of Palestinians as “deeply regrettable.” He reiterated Malaysia’s unwavering stance on the Palestinian cause, highlighting that support for their struggle is not a temporary or conditional position.
“The Palestinian people have repeatedly stated that they will not abandon their homeland, and Malaysia stands in full solidarity with them,” Mohamad declared. “Our support for Palestine is long-standing and unwavering. We believe in their legitimate right to an independent state and self-governance.”
